Easter Tablescaping
We love Easter, not only for the excuse to gather with friends and family but for the colours, patterns and creativity integral to the holiday’s traditions. From the decoration of Easter eggs, a custom that dates back to the 13th century, to the laying of the Easter table, this special Sunday is always awash with pastel colours. In fact, the table is often the focal point of any Easter gathering, laden with delicately decorated cakes, fine table linens and crockery in pinks, blues, yellows and greens and bouquets of classic springtime blooms. So, in anticipation of the big day that falls on 17th April this year, we decided to turn to some experts for some fresh tablescaping inspiration. For these women, the art of laying the table is more than just an Easter treat - it’s a daily occurrence in their households at each mealtime, elevating everyday rituals to bring joy to the table.
Jemima and Alice Herbert, Co-Founder of LAY London
Founded by sisters Jemima and Alice, LAY London is a tableware rental and styling service to give table settings at smaller, more intimate events a wow factor. Their rentable designs are defined by bold colour palettes, thoughtful details and patterns.
If there is one thing to take away from LAY London’s tablescapes, it’s the importance of pattern clashing. Never be afraid to begin with a table cloth that makes a statement, layering up placemats, charger plates, glasses and cutlery each with their own details. When guests are seated, their eyes will be drawn to the different attributes of the table, from the little votives to the scattered bud vases and from the mismatched vintage cutlery to the glinting napkin rings.
Isla Simpson
A pioneer of contemporary chintz, Isla Simpson is a designer of tableware from plates to painted candlesticks, embroidered table linens and home accessories. Her bespoke menu cards and invitations are absolute treasures, designed for life on the mantelpiece long after the dinner party, soiree or brunch has passed.
Isla’s instantly recognisable style is inspired by country house style, from embroidery to willowware, vintage trellis patterns to ‘80s-style bows and frills. Her work offers a glimpse into the most quintessentially English way of life, picked out in duck egg blue Laura Ashley-esque allusions, fabric lampshades fit for Princess Di and one-off, retro ceramic finds. To take a leaf out of Isla’s book would be to make your guests feel extra special with beautifully illustrated place cards and handwritten menus. So rare are such pleasant additions to the table, they’ll be kept as souvenirs for years to come.
Matilda Goad
Founded in 2017, Matilda Goad is a destination for vintage-inspired homewares including tableware, lamps and linens. Her ware is a patchwork of checkerboard, rattan, scallops and delightful little ceramic toast racks, egg cups and jugs.
Perhaps best known for her cheery breakfast tablescapes, Matilda is an advocate for the busy bustle of the family table. There is no space for sparsity at mealtimes, and why should there be when your butter dish, breakfast bowls and colourful acrylic cutlery make such a perfect curation to be enjoyed ensemble?

Founded by Rosanna Falconcer in 2012 as a members-only network, FashMash is a global community shaping the future of fashion with networking events, panel discussions and mentoring programmes. On top of her exquisitely elegant and colourful wardrobe, Rosanna has perfected the art of the tablescape, bringing the same attention to detail to mealtimes as she does to her faultless wardrobe.
Her flat lays comprise generously laden tables with strong colour themes, like rich scarlet interspersed with mossy greens, Bridgerton-worthy baby pinks and blues, and outdoor boho-style arrangements. For Rosanna, it’s all about sticking with a theme. For impact and wow-factor, Rosanna’s tablescapes are ones to watch.
