Bringing the charm of nature inside with fantastic floral wallpapers
If you find yourself struggling to land on that elusive best paint colour for your room, you might consider an alternative approach that brings in the charm of nature - a striking floral wallpaper! With a certain elegance or understated grandeur, flowers and naturalistic designs have been reimagined in so many ways. Whilst you may not have the budget to incorporate the bespoke craftsmanship of the likes of De Gournay or Fromental as the ultimate in top end wallpapers, there are a whole host of options that can bring your walls to life.
This striking wallpaper with trailing flowers and birds from The Mural Source was used in a dining room project. The furniture had been handed down from the owners parents and so the room scheme was developed to create a contrasting teal backdrop for the orange dining chairs and antique furniture.
Alternatively this more subtle and lyrical wallpaper with blossom was used for this bedroom, and complemented by an upholstered headboard with trim to evoke a restful and relaxing space.
Or this Colefax and Fowler ‘Marchwood’ wallpaper which creates interest on big walls with delicate flowers and a pattern, whilst also offering a sympathetic backdrop to showcase the artwork.
If you have high ceilings you might like to consider using this stunning wallpaper of ‘Tall Trees’ in a soft green by GP&J Baker, shown here creating an atmospheric entrance hallway and luring you in to the apartment.
For this next project we had such fun unearthing of the home's original contents to be renovated and restored, many of which had lain untouched for decades. Among the most fascinating finds was this original Chinese floral wallpaper. It was hand painted in the 1880s, and hidden behind a Chippendale cupboard in the drawing room. Unfortunately it didn’t fit, so we arranged for this wallpaper to be meticulously replicated by Alison McDermott Studios, with an additional 30 cms added to its height, so that it could be hung in the morning room, thereby enriching the historical narrative in this stately home.
