Bathrooms to inspire

Having a bubble: Your very own bathing cupboard

In the hustle and bustle of a London townhouse, space is often at a premium. In one of our projects, we had to think outside the box – quite literally. We created a bathroom that was tucked away at the back of a bedroom, accessible through a cleverly concealed cupboard.

This quiet, restful retreat was designed as a space to escape, unwind, and even catch up on some TV. The bathroom seamlessly blends with the bedroom while maintaining its own unique identity. It's a testament to how even the most compact spaces can be transformed into luxurious havens with a little creativity.

Curtain call: Zoning in larger spaces to incorporate bathrooms

In our work for Newhall Mains, in the Black Isle, we faced the exciting challenge of transforming historic barns into modern holiday accommodation. The objective was to create spacious, decadent bedrooms with in-room baths. To lend each room a distinct feeling of zoning, and of course to ensure privacy, we incorporated curtains that could be drawn, allowing guests to unwind modestly.

One of the most memorable parts of these bathrooms is the use of colour to denote space, but also to draw the eye towards the baths, which were certainly statement features in the rooms. In the eaves of low-ceiling barn conversions, we opted for bold and vibrant hues to draw the eye to the bathtubs, making them calming, focal point to encourage guests to relax. Personalised accessories and homely touches complete each bathroom, forging a more meaningful experience for each guest - so good, they have just been featured in Harpers Bazaar as one of the luxury places to stay in Scotland.

Working in spaces with NO natural light

It’s not uncommon that bathrooms are relegated to areas of buildings with less natural light. In some cases, it might be that your bathroom has no access to natural light at all. In these cases, why not lean into the darkness to create a space for total sensory switch-off? Using a dark, stormy palette will create a cocoon of colour to envelop you as you enjoy a steaming bath or complete your skincare routine. Soothing colours like rich blues, deep purples or forest greens will calm the mind and create an atmosphere of rest.

In this bathroom in Norfolk, we absolutely embraced the darkness to create drama and intrigue with an iris purple, from the wall paint to the splashbacks. Then, we introduced reflective surfaces to add a shimmer to the space, bouncing the integrated lighting around the room in the absence of natural light. You can see for yourself by booking a stay at Priory Barns, nr Holt in Norfolk.

Working with, and not against, property layouts to create beautiful bathrooms is a challenge that allows us to blend our expertise in architectural reconfiguration and our passion for creating elegant, colourful, personality-laden homes. Whether it's working in windowless rooms to add light and colour, adding a touch of romance to rustic barn conversions, or crafting hidden bathroom oases in tight spaces, we relish every opportunity to bring dreams to life.
