Colourful Canvases by Amanda Bastin

During February and March we are delighted to be exhibiting a number of stunning paintings by Amanda Bastin in our Chelsea showroom.

Born into an artistic family of portrait painters, fashion illustrators and fine art restorers, her love for painting was instilled in her from a young age.  Her career has developed partly through inevitably, and partly as testament to her father’s love of gardening and the natural world.

Amanda creates beautiful and uplifting oil paintings depicting her love of gardens and the magic of nature. Bold and full of energetic life, her use of colour and patterns can be infectious and help you feel alive. 

“Creativity is in my blood. I have always been drawn to colour, pattern and textures and they are defining features in my work. It creates an innate feeling of comfort, happiness and joy.  I want to ‘bottle up’ the feeling of positivity and translate this onto my canvas.’

“Watching new growth blazing through the seasons in all their colours, shapes and glories began to resonate with some quotes from my favourite artist, David Hockney. He said: ‘be in the landscape – not outside of it.’ And that ‘in art, new ways of seeing mean new ways of feeling…’

“Other artists have influenced me:  Van Gogh, Matisse, Monet, Dufy and Adrian Berg, but for the first time, through Hockney and spending more time outdoors, I began to really see and understand the many facets of nature’s ephemeral beauty as it heals and nurtures. It is a constant source of reassurance, joy and inspiration.”

Encouraged by her husband, a landscape gardener, the process sparked a completely new wave of creativity. Painting in oils with fresh, energising saturated colours and using bold and calligraphic brushstrokes, Amanda’s art reflects the magic of the natural environment in her very own infectiously vibrant and uplifting style.
