Maximising Space

Our top tips on maximising the feeling of space in residential properties, from the KD2 team:

  1. Map out the floor plan and clearly define how you would like to utilise the space to its maximum potential

  2. Have a theme in mind and try to stay consistent, whether you want to go contemporary or traditional

  3. Reorganise and disguise clutter through clever storage options

  4. Resist large pieces that can overwhelm the room and make it feel smaller than it actually is A lot of people would say that bigger pieces in a small room will make it feel bigger – I would say keep the proportions of the furniture in keeping, don’t get a huge sofa and a tiny chair.

  5. If the ceiling height is quite low, keep the furniture low also, such as a low coffee table or sofa which can create the perception of more height

  6. Strategically placed mirrors are the most popular and easy way to create the illusion of space by reflecting light and adding depth to the room

  7. Natural light can inject light and energy into a confined space

  8. Statement art work can become focal points of the room and distract attention away from the size of the space
